CHICACNAB
Chicacnab is a remote community at an altitude of 2400 meters in the mountains of Caquipec, Alta Verapaz. There is no electricity and no road, just a steep path through farmland and pristine cloudforest to reach the community. The path to Chicacnab begins in San Lucas at the base of the mountain. The climate here is generally cold and wet.

THE MAYAN CULTURE
Visitors stay in the home of a typical Mayan Q'eqchi' family and experience the life and culture of the inigenous people first hand. Their houses are very rustic, with wooden walls and a dirt floor, and an open fire inside the home over which the food is cooked.
NATURE
The pristine cloud forest of Chicacnab is home to the highest density of Quetzals in Guatemala, as well as scores of bird species such as the mountain trogon, highland guan and emerald toucan. The forest is also home to kinkajous, wild boar and howler monkeys, as well as the highly endangered jaguar. The trees are swathed in mosses, ferns, bromeliads and orchids
ADVENTURE
Hike along narrow paths to the heart of the cloud forest packed with wildlife and beautiful plants to a look-out point above the forest, a small lagoon and a ceremonial cave in which the local people still perform their ancient rituals. You can also visit PEQ's biological station, situated within its own forest reserve. Paths above the community provide fantastic views across the mountain ranges of Alta Verapaz; on a clear day it is possible to see the majestic volcanoes surrounding Antigua!
